SEOUL: A forest fire has broken out in the city of Gangneung in the eastern part of South Korea and is spreading rapidly due to strong winds and dry weather, officials said.

Due to this, approximately 500 people living in the city have been evicted from their homes.

The forest fire broke out at 8.30am South Korean time yesterday.

Firefighters are said to be struggling to put it out.

Officials are trying to clear water by helicopter.

But due to strong winds, South Korean officials said they were unable to perform as planned.
