As announced by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, A. Vasiliauskas passed away on Thursday.
A. Vasiliauskas began his career as a practical forester, diligently managing forests. He later dedicated himself to science, leading the Lithuanian Forestry Institute and mentoring future foresters. After Lithuania regained independence, he held leadership positions at the Ministries of Forestry, Forestry and Agriculture, and later became the Deputy Minister of the Environment. He played a crucial role in addressing forestry issues and developing forest policy.
Vasiliauskas also researched the causative agent of conifer root rot – root knot, and developed a preparation to combat this disease.
He authored the book “Root braid and the resilience of conifer forest ecosystems” and co-authored several other scientific books. He published over 100 scientific articles.
In 2005, he was awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania.
