Formation of search committee for appointment of Deputy Governor

The government has formed a four-member search committee to appoint a new deputy governor in the central bank. This information was informed in a circular signed by Afsana Bilkis, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance on Monday (August 12) afternoon.

Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury has been convened in the search committee. Badre Munir Ferdous, joint secretary of the financial institutions department, was elected as member secretary. In addition, Bangladesh Bank Board Director Nazrul Huda and former Chief Economist of Bangladesh Bank. Mustafa Kamal Mujeri has been inducted.

Earlier, it was decided to form a search committee for the post of Deputy Governor in Bangladesh Bank. It will be finalized in a day or two. The new Deputy Governor will be appointed on the basis of the committee’s recommendation. Apart from this, Finance and Planning Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed will decide on the appointment of the new governor in consultation with the Chief Adviser.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, four deputy governors and the head of BFIU left the central bank in the face of protests last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Finance and Planning Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said in response to reporters’ questions after a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, he is now worried about the appointment of the governor, the issue of NBR is different.
