“After almost four years, I will stop being a partner at Platanus Ventures and in the coming months I will start a new business. I think we are experiencing a technological change that is seen only once in 20 or 30 years. “It may be the most important technological change of our lives and I want to try to build something around it.” That is what the co-founder of Platanus Ventures, Andrés Matte, wrote in August 2023.
This Thursday, also on LinkedIn, Matte announced his new project: an online personal training application. “Why I am building Kapso. When I was 14 years old, my dad had a brain attack. He was in class, in first year, and my mother called me on my cell phone. With a serious but calm voice she told me: Andrés, we are going by ambulance to Santiago, the father had something neurological. Tell your brothers (…) What happened next was 1 month in the ICU, and 5 years of the most emotionally complex period that my brothers, my mother and I had.”
Then the engineer said that “my dad was sedentary, he was overweight, he smoked and had a family history of cardiovascular diseases” and he talked about the importance of exercise, healthy living and how difficult it is to be consistent.
Later, he explained how his new startup works “At Kapso we want to help you be consistent in exercising and know how to progress. One of the most powerful factors to not give up is the human factor. “When there is another person waiting for me to do something, I am much more likely to do it.”
The subscription value is $69,990 per month and it works like this, he explains: “You have an initial session with your coach by video call, where he will ask you everything you need to know to build your program. Then your trainer will prepare the exercise program designed especially for you according to your preferences, available implements, objectives and physical condition and from our application you will be able to follow the routines, chat with your trainer, send videos so that he can correct your execution of an exercise, ask him a video call, and more.”
Its co-founder is also former Platanus Nicolás Guridi and the industry leader is Future, who two years ago raised a series C of US$ 75 million.
