Mumbai: The BCCI, fuming over the failure of the T20 World Cup and the flaw in the team selection, is gathering anger for the new selection committee. Former players Nayan Mongia, Maninder Singh, Shiv Sundar Das and Ajay Ratra are in the list of possibilities. All of them have officially applied to BCCI. Sameer Digey, Gyanendra Pandey and Salil Ankola are among those who have applied.

Last date for submission of application is 28th midnight. The first challenge before the newly formed selection committee is the task of selecting the Indian senior team for the 2023 Sri Lanka series. The BCCI also announced that the committee headed by Chetan Sharma has been dissolved but will remain in the official position for the rest of the year.

The current committee will assess the performance of the players in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy and Cooch Behar Trophy and submit a report.

Even those who did not apply this time are getting attention. Ajit Agarkar, who was one of India’s best players, was the star of it. Former national players Deep Das Gupta and Lakshmi Ratan Shukla have also gained attention without applying despite BCCI’s interest.

The selection committee had made some relaxations in the eligibility criteria when Sourav Ganguly took over to include some former players. Must have played at least seven Tests or 30 first-class matches for the country. And the minimum qualification is to have played 10 ODIs or 20 first-class matches. Only players who retired before 5 years need to apply. Moreover, the current decision is that the age should not exceed 60 years.
