Former Sri Lanka Navy Commander Daya Chandagiri Joins United People’s Shakti and Appointed as Adviser on Maritime and Naval Policy by Sajith Premadasa

Following former Army Commander Daya Ratnayake, former Sri Lanka Navy Commander Daya Chandagiri also joined United People’s Shakti.

Daya Chandagiri (VSV, USP RCDs, MSc (DS), psc, FCMI), a retired 14th Naval Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, met Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and expressed support for his political journey and joined United People’s Shakti.

As a consultant on maritime and naval policies

Owing to his vast knowledge and experience in the maritime and naval sector, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa took steps to appoint him as United People’s Shakti’s Adviser on Maritime and Naval Policy.

He also holds the record as the most experienced Naval Commander in the 53-year history of the Navy.

As Chief of Defense Staff

He was promoted to Naval Commander and served in that position for four years and eight months. After retirement, he was appointed Chief of Defense Staff with the rank of Admiral on 1 September 2005.

He became the fourth Chancellor of Defense University on 9 November 2015 after retiring from the post on 12 June 2005.
