Until 1950, Silvaner was the most cultivated white wine variety in Germany. After that it went downhill. The stuff was considered flimsy, mass-produced and not really cultivated.

Nowadays, Silvaner is much rarer, but often great.

With aromas of green apple, mirabelle plum and marjoram, the grape variety is a good addition to vegetarian cuisine and fish.
