Armenia and Azerbaijan accused each other of opening fire on the border between the two conflicting Caucasian countries, in an incident that Yerevan announced led to the death of four of its soldiers.

Tensions remain high between the two countries, with Yerevan accusing Azerbaijan of having new regional ambitions, which Baku strongly denies, since it took control of the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh in September.
The Armenian Ministry of Defense said in a statement this morning, “Units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire towards Armenian combat positions in the Nargin Hand region, which led to the death of four and the wounding of another from the Armenian side.”
But Azerbaijani border guards indicated that the move came to “respond” to Monday’s “provocation” by Armenian soldiers, which led to the injury of an Azerbaijani soldier, according to Baku.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense stated that Armenian soldiers opened fire twice early Monday on the village of Kokhanabe in the Touz region (northeast).
