Four individuals appeared in court charged with murdering a newborn baby girl found stabbed to death at a house in Sheffield’s Wincobank area on Sunday after police responded to safety concerns, authorities reported this week.
Police and prosecutors have moved quickly through initial legal proceedings following the discovery of the infant, who was referred to as Baby S during court appearances, at a residential property on Holywell Heights. Four adult defendants faced magistrates alongside a 15-year-old girl, while investigators continue examining the tragic circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Charges Filed at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court
Two men and two women appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court charged in connection with the infant’s death. The adult defendants include Slovakian nationals Andrea Skopova, 20, formerly of Robey Street, Sheffield, alongside Peter Horvath, 19, Nina Horvathova, 37, and Peter Horvath, 38, all residing at Holywell Heights.
The four adults face three separate offences, including murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant. A 15-year-old girl, whose identity cannot be named for legal reasons due to her age, has also been charged solely with perverting the course of justice.
Police Investigation and Forensic Findings
South Yorkshire Police officers were called to the Wincobank area on Sunday morning following reports expressing concern for the safety of an infant. Upon searching the Holywell Heights property, authorities discovered the baby girl.
A forensic post-mortem examination subsequently identified the baby’s cause of death as resulting from stab wounds, according to reporting details confirmed by police. Police stated that Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath, 19, Peter Horvath, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, were charged with three offences, including murder, on Tuesday evening. Horvath Jnr, Horvath Snr and Horvathova, all of Holywell Heights, Sheffield, Skopova, formally of Robey Street, Sheffield, and the 15-year-old girl are all in custody. In addition to those already appearing in court, two women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail.
