Tokyo (AP) – Teenager Merle Menje is getting closer and closer to a medal at the Paralympics. After sixth place over 5000 meters, the 17-year-old from Singen took fourth place over 800 meters for racing wheelchair users, this time supported by her father, who is a supervisor in the stadium.

At the EM in June, Menje surprisingly won two gold and two silver medals. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) then referred to her as a “German child prodigy”. At the Paralympics, however, Menje has to face strong competition from overseas. There is still a chance for a medal, over 1500 meters.
