France announced that it is ready to participate in financing a “three gigawatt” electricity line linking the Moroccan city of Casablanca to the town of Dakhla in Western Sahara.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said at a Moroccan-French business forum in Rabat: “I assure you that we are ready to participate in financing this project.”

French Foreign Minister Stephane Ségornet said in February that Paris supports Morocco’s investments in Western Sahara, reiterating its support for Rabat’s plan to grant the region autonomy.

Le Maire said: “France also intends to cooperate with Morocco in developing projects for solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen, in addition to nuclear energy.”

He added, “The French Development Agency will provide a loan worth 350 million euros to help the OCP group in its green transformation plan.”

It is noteworthy that France is the largest foreign investor in Morocco, with total investments of 8.2 billion euros ($8.75 billion) until 2022, and there are industrial facilities in Morocco for prominent French companies such as Renault and Safran.
