The oldest game show in France, “Numbers and Letters”, will disappear from France Télévisions schedules at the beginning of the school year, after more than fifty years, broadcast director Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez announced, in Sunday La Tribune.

“Difficult decision”

“The “Numbers and Letters” weekend programming was unsuccessful. After fifty years of existence, it is a meeting of emblems. It is a difficult decision but we have made the choice to stop this program,” he said.

From the start of the school year in September 2022, the game created in 1972 is only being broadcast on weekends. “The show will say goodbye to Patrice Laffont and Laurent Romejko (its first and last presenter, Editor’s note), and will thank all the teams,” said the antenna director.

It was replaced by “The 1000 Euro Game”.

The place on France 3 for the flagship game, Saturday and Sunday at 5:15 pm, will now be occupied by the television adaptation of another flagship program from Radio France, “The game of 1,000 euros”, until now broadcast only on Saturday. .

Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez also announced that much later programs such as “Betrand n’a pas slept” or “En bande organized” have not been renewed, “because they have not fully found their audience”.

“On the other hand, many new programs are being renewed, such as “Cmedia” (France 5) and +Bel et bien+ (France 2). We will also continue our strategy aimed at young viewers by investing in the Twitch platform from the beginning of the school year,” he continued.
