After a recent bout of strong winds, snow is making a return to eastern France. Starting Saturday morning, six departments will be placed under orange alert for snow and ice: Doubs, Jura, Haute-Marne, Haute-Saône, Vosges, and Territoire de Belfort, according to a bulletin released by Météo-France on teh morning of Friday, January 9. The meteorological institute anticipates a “notable snowfall event” with potential impacts on transportation and daily life.

Throughout Saturday, snowfall is expected, with intensities sometimes reaching 1 to 3 centimeters per hour. This snow, which is wet to damp in nature, is falling with strong winds, which coudl lead to very poor visibility on the roads and snowdrifts on higher ground, Météo-France details.
“Temperatures will become significantly negative in the latter part of Saturday night into Sunday, with a risk of ice forming,” the agency warns.
