The resident choreographer of the Bat Sheva dance troupe will receive the medal of honor of the Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters; In the past he was already awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Arts of France

France’s Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, will present choreographer Ohad Naharin with the honor of Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters (Commandeur De L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres).

The commander’s rank is the highest in the order, above officer and knight, and is awarded annually by the French Ministry of Culture to only about 20 people, for their rich and unique work and extraordinary contribution to the French and global cultural field.

Naharin, the in-house choreographer of the Bat Sheva dance troupe, was previously awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Arts on behalf of the French government, and David Grossman, Amos Oz, Pnina Blair, Etgar Keret, Michal Rovner and others also received the title.

In December, the dance piece “Momo” by Naharin will be staged in collaboration with dancers from the Bat Sheva troupe and Ariel Cohen.

Abdul Malak said: “This sign is intended to honor the extraordinary creative work of those who support the dissemination of knowledge and works that make up the assets of our cultural heritage. France hereby honors your contribution to the dissemination of the arts in France and the world.”
