USHUAIA, Argentina – Hundreds of people in Argentina’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, publicly affirmed their faith in Jesus Christ this past weekend during a series of evangelistic events led by Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA). The outreach, dubbed “Esperanza Ushuaia” – meaning “hope for Ushuaia” – drew thousands to the José “Cochocho” Vargas Stadium, a location approximately 650 miles from the tip of Antarctica, and offered a message of hope in a region grappling with significant challenges.
The events, held February 14th and 15th, 2026, saw the stadium filled to capacity, with an overflow crowd gathering outside to watch on a screen, according to reports from the BGEA. Graham, president and CEO of the BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse, focused his message on the biblical story of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar whose faith led to healing, as recounted in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10. He emphasized the transformative power of faith and the accessibility of God’s grace.
Reaching ‘The End of the World’ with a Message of Hope
Ushuaia, often referred to as the “city at the end of the world,” holds a unique geographical and cultural position. The city, nestled between the Andes Mountains and the Beagle Channel, is a gateway to Antarctica and a popular destination for adventurers and explorers. However, the region also faces socio-economic difficulties. Graham directly addressed the challenges facing the community, asking attendees, “Are you running out of hope?”
“Bartimaeus had no hope,” Graham said, according to a BGEA summary of the event. “He thought nobody could aid him. There’s nothing he could do but sit on the side of the road… But he cried out to Jesus.” He continued, urging the audience to turn to Christ, stating, “In the same way, there’s nothing you can do to get rid of your sins. You cannot save yourself. Will you come to Christ tonight?”

Hundreds Respond to the Invitation
Following Graham’s appeal, hundreds of individuals reportedly came forward to express their commitment to Christianity. One attendee, identified as Walter, shared his story of overcoming years of addiction and homelessness, stating, “I just knew I needed to repent of my sins,” and acknowledging God’s provision in his life. Those who made a decision for Christ were provided with Bibles and connected with local churches for ongoing discipleship, according to the BGEA.
Graham described the atmosphere as deeply moving, stating, “It was such a privilege to preach the Gospel here at the southernmost city of the world! The Microestadio Cochocho was packed again today with a full overflow area.” He emphasized the core tenet of his message, stating, “The Excellent News is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, from Heaven to this earth to save us. He took our sin on the Cross, shed His blood, was buried, and God raised Him to life on the third day! We give God the glory for each one who responded to the invitation to turn from their sins and put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior today.”
Expanding Outreach in Latin America and Beyond
The “Esperanza Ushuaia” event is part of a broader series of outreach initiatives planned by Graham and the BGEA. According to The Christian Post, future events are scheduled in Peru, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This outreach follows a similar evangelistic event in Ushuaia on February 16, 2026, as reported by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
The BGEA’s work extends beyond evangelistic events, encompassing humanitarian aid through Samaritan’s Purse. The organization provides disaster relief, medical care, and other forms of assistance to communities in need around the globe. The combination of spiritual outreach and practical aid reflects a holistic approach to ministry.
The success of the Ushuaia outreach underscores the continued demand for spiritual guidance and hope, even in remote and challenging environments. The BGEA plans to continue its evangelistic efforts, bringing a message of faith and renewal to communities worldwide.
