Frederic “Neandertaler” Vosgröne Confirms OKTAGON MMA Return in Stuttgart

Germany’s popular mixed martial artist, Frederic “Neandertaler” Vosgröne, will return to the cage on January 31st, ending weeks of speculation about his future.

For weeks, fans of combat sports in Germany have been eagerly awaiting news on when Frederic “Neandertaler” Vosgröne would fight again – and, crucially, where. Now, the wait is over. Vosgröne announced via an Instagram Story, simply stating “Contract is signed,” sparking a flurry of speculation across social media. Initial rumors suggested a potential move away from OKTAGON MMA, with possibilities including a switch to FNC, a leading MMA organization in Southeastern Europe, or even the UFC, the world’s premier MMA league.

However, BILD can now exclusively report that Vosgröne will compete at OKTAGON 83 on January 31st in Stuttgart, Germany, at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle. He will face the undefeated Samuel Chavarría (24, Honduras). The event will also feature bouts with Niko Samsonidse in a featherweight title fight and Alina Dalaslan.

The upcoming bout will be contested at a catchweight of 87 kilograms, rather than Vosgröne’s preferred halving weight class of up to 93 kilograms. This adjustment comes as Vosgröne aims to compete in the middleweight division (up to 84 kg) in the future.

Recent months have seen persistent rumors within the German MMA scene suggesting Vosgröne might sever ties with OKTAGON MMA altogether. The source of this speculation stemmed from a reported dispute between the fighter and the organization. According to reports, Vosgröne publicly criticized the league after his girlfriend and a trainer were ejected from the cage following his victory in Frankfurt in October.

“I don’t know if I want to fight for Oktagon anymore. I get treated like crap every time I’m at an event!” Vosgröne reportedly stated at the time.

It appears those tensions have since eased. A senior official confirmed that Vosgröne remains under contract with OKTAGON MMA for two more fights. The fighter’s plans beyond that remain uncertain, leaving his long-term future in the sport open to possibilities.
