Bucaramanga Launches Free Sports Program for Children and Adolescents, Including Inclusive Options

A new initiative in Bucaramanga, Colombia, is providing free access to sports for children and adolescents aged 6 to 13, with dedicated programs for individuals with disabilities.

The Institute of Youth, Sports and Recreation of Bucaramanga (INDERBU) is spearheading the program, which aims to promote healthy lifestyles and expand athletic opportunities across the city’s 17 communes and three townships. Registration is now open for 15 different disciplines, including soccer, swimming, basketball, skating, volleyball, table tennis, field tennis, micro soccer, taekwondo, karate-do, gymnastics, BMX, cycling, and track and field.

“We hope that all the children in our municipality join and remember that it is completely free,” stated a senior official involved with the program. The initiative also specifically includes two modalities designed for the disabled population, ensuring inclusivity and equal access to athletic development.

Registration is conducted online through the official INDERBU website, where information banners for each discipline detail training locations and contact information. Alternatively, prospective participants can call (607) 6854594, option one, for guidance. Due to high anticipated demand, available places are limited, and allocation will be based on a first-come, first-served basis, respecting the capacity of each venue.

To complete the registration process, several documents are required. These include a medical certificate of fitness to participate in sports, proof of health system affiliation, a completed registration form, the minor’s identity document, and a signed informed consent form from a legal guardian.

INDERBU emphasizes that the program is designed not only to foster athletic skill but also to cultivate healthy living habits and provide a valuable training tool for young residents. The activities will be supervised by qualified Physical Education professionals in both urban and rural sectors.
