Lake Chelan’s Apple Cup Cafe Seeks Community Support for Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

A cherished tradition is facing a critical funding gap, prompting a call for community assistance to ensure a free Thanksgiving meal for seniors, families, and those in need. The Apple Cup Cafe is determined to continue its decades-long commitment to providing a warm holiday meal, but requires immediate support to overcome an unexpected shortfall in donations.

The Apple Cup Cafe has been hosting its Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for over 25 years, offering a vital service to the Lake Chelan community. This year, the event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, and will offer a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings for dine-in, takeout, or delivery.

A Tradition Reborn After Adversity

The cafe’s journey to continue this tradition has been marked by resilience. Following a devastating fire that destroyed the original location on upper Woodin Avenue, the owners temporarily relocated to the Lake Chelan Community Center. Last summer, they proudly reopened in a permanent downtown location at 114 E. Woodin Avenue, ready to resume their community outreach.

“After more than a quarter-century, the location has changed, but the generosity remains the same,” a company release stated, highlighting the cafe’s enduring spirit.

Urgent Need for Donations

Despite the successful relocation, the Apple Cup Cafe is facing an unprecedented challenge. According to information released by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce, the cafe has received “only a small portion of its usual support this year, leaving a significant gap.” While the cafe remains fully committed to providing the meal, the financial shortfall is substantial.

“This is an opportunity for our community to step in and help keep this tradition strong,” one community leader explained. “If you or your business are able to contribute any amount, your support will directly help Apple Cup continue offering this important holiday service to those who need it most.”

The Apple Cup Cafe will also be collecting canned food and cash donations for the Lake Chelan Food Bank during the event, amplifying the impact of the Thanksgiving Dinner beyond a single meal.

How to Help

Community members are encouraged to contribute to the Apple Cup Cafe’s efforts. Donations can be made directly to the cafe at 114 E. Woodin Avenue. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help ensure that the Thanksgiving Dinner remains a welcoming and inclusive space for all neighbors in need.

“Together, we can help ensure the Thanksgiving Dinner remains a warm and welcoming place for our neighbors,” the company release concluded, emphasizing the power of collective action in preserving this vital community tradition.
