TUI, through its foundation, Tui Care Foundation, undertakes a three-year initiative to support sustainable agricultural production in Crete and Rhodes, entitled “field to fork”, that is, loosely translated, “from the field to the plate”.

The program aims to connect over 500 farmers with local food production units and hotels on these islands.

It is estimated that 300 producers in Crete and 200 in Rhodes will benefit from this, since they are engaged in the production of olive oil, wine, avocados, honey, herbs and other products.

The aim of the TUI Foundation is to create better income opportunities for producers and to increase the supply and diversification of sustainable food, while informing staff and visitors about Greek gastronomy.

The staff of participating businesses will receive personalized training on the culinary heritage of Greece and learn how to talk about sustainable food production as a factor in healthy eating, protecting the soil, improving people’s living conditions and agritourism.

German Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Andreas Kindl, together with Counsellor Mr. Hans Loeffler visited TUI Field to Fork Greece in Crete

The “Tui Field to Fork Greece” initiative was officially launched through a workshop inviting stakeholders to participate in the issue of food in the tourism industry. The participants reached 200, and came from the Ministries of Rural Development and Tourism, partners from the hospitality sector and local food production units, with the aim of discussing soil health, circular food systems design, certification and the role of hotels as regeneration nodes.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the overall restoration or sustainable management of more than 100 plots, corresponding to 300 hectares. It will enable Crete and Rhodes to set an example for a movement around sustainable food production in Greece.

The German Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Andreas Kindl, welcomed the initiative during his tour of the collaborating Lyrarakis winery, near Heraklion. At the vineyard, the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about how local farmers are being supported in transitioning to more sustainable farming practices.

TUI Care Foundation Executive Director Alexander Panczuk said TUI Field to Fork Greece can transform the rural landscape of Crete and Rhodes. This initiative, he said, has far-reaching implications, not only for local communities but also for the wider tourism sector. It is an important step towards building a resilient and sustainable future for these beautiful islands.
