Fujifilm is expanding its lineup of professional broadcast lenses, announcing the immediate availability of the UA22x4.8BERD and development plans for three additional 4K models. The new lenses aim to meet the growing demand for versatile, high-quality optics in news gathering, live sports, and studio production. The UA22x4.8, shipping by the complete of April 2026, is designed for portability and a wide range of shooting scenarios, while the forthcoming UA16x4BERD, UA30x7.3BERD, and UA94x8.7BESM promise extended focal ranges and enhanced performance.

The Fujinon UA22x4.8BERD (“UA22x4.8”) is a 2/3-inch sensor broadcast zoom lens offering a focal length range of 4.8mm to 106mm. Weighing just 4.8 lbs (2.17kg) and measuring 9.9 inches (251mm) in length, the lens is built for mobility. Fujifilm highlighted its suitability for news reporting, studio environments, and the dynamic demands of live sports coverage, where operators need to quickly adapt to changing action. The UA22x4.8 builds upon the success of the UA18x5.5BERD, released in 2017, offering an expanded focal range while maintaining a compact and lightweight design.

Expanding the Fujinon Broadcast Lens Family

According to Stosh Durbacz, vice president of Sales at Fujifilm North America Corporation, Optical Devices Division, there’s a clear need for lenses that can handle both wide-angle and telephoto shots in professional video production. “There is strong demand for versatile zoom lenses that can cover everything from wide angles to telephoto in professional filming environments such as news reporting, studio production, and sports broadcasting,” Durbacz said. The UA22x4.8 is intended to address this need, offering a broader range than its predecessor, the UA18x5.5, which covered a focal length of 5.5mm to 100mm.

The expanded wide-angle capability of the UA22x4.8 is particularly useful for filming in confined spaces and capturing immersive perspectives in sports, according to Fujifilm. Improvements in lens processing technology and construction have allowed for a reduction in both weight and size compared to the UA18x5.5, easing the burden on camera operators during extended shoots.

Future Lens Development: A Wider Range of Options

Beyond the immediate availability of the UA22x4.8, Fujifilm is actively developing three additional 4K broadcast zoom lenses: the UA16x4BERD (“UA16x4”), the UA30x7.3BERD (“UA30x7.3”), and the UA94x8.7BESM. These lenses are slated for release in fall 2026 and spring 2027, respectively. Fujifilm states that each lens is designed to cover a wide range of focal lengths, supporting immersive storytelling across diverse broadcast applications, including sports, concerts, live events, and studio productions.

The UA16x4, and UA30x7.3 lenses are described as portable options that combine extended wide-angle capabilities with a high zoom ratio. Fujifilm anticipates these lenses will provide flexibility for capturing everything from sweeping stadium views to close-up interviews in sports broadcasting. The UA94x8.7, a box zoom lens, offers a super-telephoto range of 8.7mm to 818mm, making it suitable for large-scale events where significant reach is required.

Addressing the Evolving Needs of Broadcast Professionals

Fujifilm emphasized the increasing demand for versatile box lenses that deliver high production quality and cost-effectiveness as professional video production expands into new settings. Durbacz explained that the UA94x8.7 is positioned between Fujifilm’s UA70x and UA107x box zooms, offering a proprietary image stabilization system to reduce camera shake and ease operation during live broadcasts. “UA94×8.7 sits in a sweet spot between our UA70x and UA107x box zooms,” Durbacz said. “It delivers a proprietary image stabilization system offering superior operability during zooming and focusing, reducing the burden on camera operators, and contributing to smooth operation in live production – at a price point we think will better align with their needs.”

Fujifilm plans to showcase all three new lenses – the UA16x4, UA30x7.3, and UA94x8.7 – at the 2026 NAB Demonstrate in Las Vegas, scheduled for April 19-22, 2026. The UA94x8.7 is expected to ship in fall 2026, with the UA16x4 and UA30x7.3 following in spring 2027. The company will continue to demonstrate and refine these lenses leading up to their respective release dates, with further updates expected at industry events throughout 2026 and 2027.
