Brentford striker Yoane Wissa is reportedly pushing for a summer move to Newcastle United, as speculation mounts regarding Alexander Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool. Isak, 25, has informed Newcastle of his desire to leave, and Liverpool is said to be ready to shatter the British transfer record to secure his signature, with Newcastle holding out for a £150 million fee.
Newcastle Faces Striker Dilemma Amidst Transfer Rumors
Wissa determined to join Newcastle as Isak transfer saga continues.
- Yoane Wissa wants to leave Brentford for Newcastle United.
- Alexander Isak has informed Newcastle he wants to depart.
- Liverpool is reportedly willing to break the British transfer record for Isak.
- Newcastle saw a £25 million bid for Wissa rejected.
- Newcastle is also considering Benjamin Sesko, Nicolas Jackson, and Ollie Watkins.
Liverpool might leverage the imminent sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, a deal reportedly valued at €75 million (£65.5m / $88.1m) with add-ons, to fund a bid for Isak. Reports on July 24 indicated that Isak is keen to leave Newcastle and join Liverpool, a sentiment that has been widely echoed.
Newcastle is preparing for a future without Isak and has identified Brentford forward Wissa as a prime target. Other forwards on their shortlist include RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, has already seen a £25 million offer rejected, with Brentford keen to retain their key player. According to reports, Wissa, 28, is unhappy with Brentford’s stance and is “furious” about their refusal to sell, reportedly stating he “does not intend to play for Brentford again.”
Wissa has one year left on his contract, with Brentford holding an option for an additional year, lessening any immediate pressure to sell. The club’s reluctance is understandable, especially after losing key players Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, along with head coach Thomas Frank, this summer.
Newcastle continues to target Wissa, but they are prepared to explore other options if an agreement with Brentford cannot be reached. The club could potentially sign one new striker if Isak remains, or two if the Swedish international departs St James’ Park.
Among the other targets is 22-year-old striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, who is also being monitored by Manchester United. Leipzig is reportedly open to offers in the £70 million range for Sesko, and Newcastle is reportedly working to meet Profitability and Sustainability Rules requirements for such a deal.
Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea is also on Newcastle’s radar, with potential deals in the £50 million range being discussed. Manchester United also holds an interest in Jackson.
Ollie Watkins, 29, has also been evaluated, with Manchester United also showing interest. Aston Villa is keen to keep Watkins, but they would consider an offer around £60 million.
Newcastle’s ability to pursue a new striker and the amount they can spend are directly linked to Alexander Isak’s future. The club anticipates a significant bid from Liverpool soon, and their transfer strategy will hinge on how they respond.
Alexander Isak has informed Newcastle United that he wishes to depart, with Liverpool reportedly interested in breaking the British transfer record to sign him.
