The United Nations also faced criticism for its failure to speak up over the acts of sexual violence against women during the attack and the ongoing safety of female hostages held by Hamas. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was criticized for taking so long to acknowledge the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war by Hamas.
Gadot urged women and allies of women to act and demanded that Hamas release every single woman hostage immediately. She called on various groups, including the U.N., to do everything possible to secure the release of the female hostages so they do not have to suffer continued acts of sexual violence.
Since the events of Oct. 7, Gadot has been advocating for the release of hostages and highlighting the personal stories of those still captive. She has used her social media platform to raise awareness and garnered support from other celebrities and entertainment executives.
