Podracing is Back on Track for Star Wars: Galactic Racer
The upcoming racing game, announced last year, will indeed feature the iconic speeders that thrilled fans in The Phantom Menace.
- Star Wars: Galactic Racer will include podracing.
- Players will have the option to race in first-person view.
- Fuse Games was founded in 2023 by former Burnout developers.
Don’t count out podracing just yet. despite the initial trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer lacking the high-octane space chariots, the developers have confirmed that these fan-favorite vehicles will be a playable component of the game. The announcement, made during The Game Awards last year, sparked concern among some that the beloved podracing scene from 1999’s The Phantom Menace might be left out.
Fuse Games CEO and co-founder Matt Webster explained to Gamesradar that podracing is integral to the Star Wars racing experience. “The core fantasy of the game is becoming an elite racing pilot in the Galactic League, and podracing is a pinnacle of speed and racing in the Star Wars galaxy,” he said. However, the team also intends to expand beyond just podracing, offering players a variety of vehicles and racing styles.
“However, when we set out to create Galactic Racer, we wanted to do more – to lean into multiple vehicle types and multiple expressions of speed to give players a breadth of experiences,” Webster added. “Galactic Racer offers players the ability to pilot vehicles they know and love, alongside ones they won’t have experienced before, across a range of solo and multiplayer modes.”
For those who prefer a more immersive experience, Galactic Racer will also support first-person racing. While Webster hasn’t yet confirmed the inclusion of the Boonta Eve Classic race course-a staple of previous Star Wars racing games like Star Wars Racer’s Revenge-fans are hopeful that this iconic track will be featured when the game launches on consoles and PC later this year.
