Two yellow cards, after which Lokomotiv defender Dmitry Zhivoglyadov was not removed from the field, became the reason for Galatasaray’s protest following the results of the match with the Russian club. This was reported by Galatasaray in Twitter.

“Our club has submitted to UEFA the necessary legal application to award us a victory due to an error in the rules in the match with Lokomotiv or to replay the match if our request is not accepted,” Galatasaray said.

Former head coach of Lokomotiv Yuri Semin, in a conversation with TASS, noted that this situation is similar to the 2001 incident. Then, due to the referee’s mistake, the return match of the third qualifying round of the Champions League between Lokomotiv and Tyrol was replayed.

Galatasaray drew with Lokomotiv in the fourth round of the Europa League group stage – 1: 1. Judge Sandro Scherer showed Zhivoglyadov a yellow card. However, the referee did not have time to record the violation due to a conflict that began near the fan stand. After this incident, Scherer again showed Zhivoglyadov a yellow card, but did not send him off the field.
