Centennial High School solidified its status as a powerhouse in Nevada athletics this weekend, capturing both the boys’ and girls’ large-class state track and field titles in a dominant display at Hug High. The Bulldogs’ victory was characterized by depth and consistency, leaving the Galena Grizzlies to take second place in both divisions.
The Centennial girls continued a historic run of dominance, securing their 13th state title in the last 14 seasons with a total of 112 points. The Bulldog boys mirrored that success, compiling 96 points to claim their first state championship since 2017. In a tightly contested battle for the remaining podium spots, the Galena boys, girls finish runner-up to Centennial in large-class state track &. field, with the Grizzlies’ girls earning 82 points and the boys finishing with 73.
While Centennial took the team trophies, the individual performances from Galena provided some of the most dramatic moments of the meet, particularly in the sprinting and field events where margins of victory were measured in fractions of a second and inches.
Razor-Thin Margins for Alyssa Dixon
Galena’s Alyssa Dixon delivered a series of performances that highlighted the precarious nature of elite sprinting. Competing in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes, Dixon found herself in three separate “nail-biter” finishes that required precise timing to resolve.
In the 400-meter race, Dixon secured first place with a time of 57.21 seconds, edging out Ahtziri Gadzuric of Coronado High, who finished at 57.22 seconds—a difference of just one-hundredth of a second. Dixon maintained that momentum in the 200-meter race, where she finished first in 24.491 seconds, narrowly beating Bishop Gorman’s Bre’lynn Johnson, who clocked in at 24.492 seconds.
The only event that escaped Dixon’s grasp was the 100-meter dash, where she claimed second place. In a mirror image of her 200-meter race, she finished with a time of 12.146 seconds, just behind Johnson’s winning time of 12.143 seconds. Beyond the track, the Utah Valley commit demonstrated her versatility by taking third place in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1 inch.
Distance Dominance and Record-Breaking Throws
Galena’s success extended into distance running and field events, where the Grizzlies showcased elite specialization. Gioia Coudriet emerged as one of the most decorated athletes of the meet, sweeping the gold medals in the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter races. Coudriet also contributed to the team’s overall standing by helping the Grizzlies’ 4×400-meter relay team secure a third-place finish.
In the boys’ division, David Coisson added to Galena’s tally by winning the 1600-meter race with a time of 4:20.25. However, the most historic moment of the weekend came from the throwing circle.
Kayden Hulet, an Ole Miss commit, delivered a performance for the record books. After winning the shot put on Friday, Hulet turned his attention to the discus on Saturday. He shattered the NIAA state meet record with a throw of 205 feet, surpassing the previous mark of 203 feet, 1 inch set by Reno’s Kami Keshmiri in 1987. The throw secured Hulet back-to-back titles in the event.

Broad Success Across the Field
The state meet featured several other standout performances from across the region. In the pole vault, Reno’s Mackenzie Sellers successfully defended her title, winning back-to-back large-class state championships. In the throwing events, Spanish Springs’ Isaiah Blinkinsop claimed the large-class shot put title, while Damonte Ranch’s Kennedy Wilkins won the large-class discus title.
Damonte Ranch also saw success in the high jump, where Shane Stewart secured back-to-back state crowns. In the hurdles, Spanish Springs’ Darius Chapman took first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.75 seconds. Chapman also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.54 seconds), finishing behind McQueen’s Owen Landis, who won the event in 15.20 seconds.
Additional highlights included Tyler Russell of Reed, who won the 200-meter dash in 21.90 seconds, and Nico Panelli of McQueen, who took second in the 200-meter race and helped the Lancers to a third-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay.
Results from 2A and 3A Divisions
While the large-class competition drew significant attention, the smaller divisions also crowned their champions. The South Tahoe girls claimed the team 3A title, while Coral Academy took home the 2A title for the girls. In the 2A boys’ division, North Tahoe made school history by winning the program’s first-ever 2A state title.
As the season concludes, many of the top performers will transition to the collegiate level. With commits to programs such as Ole Miss and Utah Valley, the impact of this year’s state meet will extend beyond the high school circuit as these athletes move into NCAA competition.
