In the process of developing a nasal vaccine, serious progress has been made, scientists are ready to move on to clinical trials of a nasal vaccine against coronavirus, said the director of the Center. Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg in the commentary to TASS.

“There is serious progress with the nasal vaccine now, the pre-clinic is done. We are ready to move on to clinical trials, ”he said.

Earlier, Gitsnburg said that scientists wanted to first conduct clinical trials as one of the stages of an existing vaccine, skipping a number of stages, but this idea was not approved. He estimated the cost of the tests at 400 million rubles.

The nasal vaccine is the second component of Sputnik V, which is sprayed into the nasal cavity using a special syringe. The inoculation with this drug was made by the staff of the center and the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

Mass vaccination against coronavirus in Russia began in January. Later, a number of regions announced the mandatory vaccination of citizens from “risk groups”. Four vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in Russia – Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, KoviVak and Sputnik Light.
