The Rugby Seven Safor tournament is set to make waves on Gandía Beach this Saturday, July 26, kicking off at 9 a.m.

Get ready for some serious beach rugby action! This Saturday, July 26, Gandía Beach will host the Rugby Seven Safor tournament, starting bright and early at 9 a.m. on Paseo Neptuno, right in front of the Albatros building. This annual event promises a day packed with competitive spirit and sporting camaraderie.

Beach Rugby Returns to Gandía with Record New Teams

This year’s tournament features 14 teams, with 11 male squads and 3 female squads hitting the sand. While U-18 school teams won’t be participating this time around, despite considerable interest, the competition is heating up. The day’s schedule includes a round-robin phase in the morning, followed by an exciting elimination phase in the afternoon. To cap off the event, participants can look forward to a traditional “tercer tiempo,” a celebratory roast held at the baseball field on Gandía Beach.

Jesús Naveiro, Gandía’s sports councilor, anticipates nearly 200 athletes will be present. He extended an open invitation for everyone to come and witness the tournament, highlighting rugby as a sport that perfectly embodies both strong competition and great sportsmanship.

Eli González, president of the La Safor Rugby Club, noted the significant influx of new teams this year, signaling a growing interest. “Only two teams from the Valencian Community are returning: Denia and El Tatami from Valencia,” González stated.

Gonzalo López, another member of the La Safor rugby club, celebrated the edition’s success, particularly the return of teams that had previously reduced their participation. He emphasized its unique standing, saying, “It is the only beach rugby tournament, even nationally, that carries so many editions.”
