Julia “Babe” Macken, Beloved Mayo Mother, Passes Away at 89

A life well-lived concluded peacefully on December 19, 2025, with the passing of Julia “Babe” Macken, a cherished resident of Rausakeera, Kilmaine, Co. Mayo. She died in the compassionate care of Mayo Hospice, castlebar, surrounded by her loving family.

A Life Remembered

Born Julia Heneghan, Babe – as she was affectionately known – experienced a full and rich life, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was predeceased by her husband, Davy, her infant son, John, and siblings Mary, nora, John, and pake, as well as her brother-in-law, Frank. Her passing marks the end of an era for many who knew and loved her.

Family and Legacy

Babe’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her three daughters: Maureen Corr of Kilkenny, Anne Walsh of claregalway, and Deirdre Coleman of Straide/Foxford. She leaves behind a loving network of family including sons-in-law Brendan, Paul, and Pat; grandchildren Shane, Eimear, Ruth, Claire, Emily, Ella, and Hazel; sisters-in-law Anne Heneghan, Maureen Doyle, and Siobhán O’Hare; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

A family statement expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, noting that Babe was “sadly missed, but will always be remembered with love.”

Funeral Arrangements and Memorials

Reposing will take place at her home in Rausakeera (F31XV58) on Sunday, December 21st, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.A removal Service will be held from her residence on Monday, December 22nd, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Patrick’s Church in Kilmaine (F31A348) at 11:30 AM. The funeral procession will then proceed to the new cemetery in Kilmaine for interment.
