Ganesh Acharya choreographed the song ‘Antava’ from the movie ‘Pushpa’ which is notable for its dance steps with Samantha.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Ganesh Acharya and his accomplice have been charged under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-c (voyeurism), 354-d (pursuit), 509 (insult to female dignity), 323 (injury), 504 (provocation of peace) of the Indian Penal Code. The case is being prosecuted under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (general intent to commit a crime).
The 35-year-old fellow dancer said she was told by police that a chargesheet had been filed. Ganesh Acharya declined to comment on the matter. Earlier, several colleagues had leveled sexual allegations against Ganesh. Ganesh denied all the allegations and said they were baseless.
When Mumbai police filed an FIR against a fellow dancer, Ganesh Acharya’s lawyer said that in February 2020, a defamation complaint was lodged against the fellow dancer. In the complaint, the fellow dancer alleged that Acharya started harassing her after she refused to have sex with him. She says he told her in May 2021 that he had to have sex with her if he wanted to succeed in the industry. She also alleged that she had terminated her membership from the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association as a result of her refusal.
“I was beaten, abused and defamed by his female assistants. After that I went to the police and refused to register a complaint and registered a non-cognizable case. Then I contacted a lawyer to take the matter further,” she said.
