The Ministry of External Affairs has issued an order mandating online registration from January 1, 2019.

Registration was made compulsory for those who do not require non-ECR emigration clearance. Information must be provided through the website at least 24 hours prior to departure. But this condition does not apply to those going on other visas including visitor visa.

The Ministry of External Affairs has made registration compulsory to ensure the welfare and rights of Indians abroad. Applicants for e-migrate are required to apply for employment in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Thailand, UAE and Yemen.

The e-Migrate portal was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing job security to Indians working abroad. Currently, those who require emigration clearance (Holders of ECR ​​category passports) can go abroad only after registering their employment information through the portal.

This was to prevent less educated Indians from being exploited abroad. However, e-Migrate registration has been made mandatory for all non-ECRs and those exposed to various forms of labor exploitation abroad.
