Gapyeong-gun held an inauguration ceremony for the ‘Animal Medical Support Group’ for the underprivileged. Gapyeong-gun (Governor Seo Tae-won) has formed an ‘Animal Medical Support Group’ to provide support to vulnerable livestock farmers such as low-income and elderly farmers.

On the 9th, the county held an ‘Animal Medical Support Group Inauguration Ceremony’ at a livestock farm in the jurisdiction, with County Governor Seo Tae-won, airborne doctors, Gapyeong Livestock Cooperative executives and employees, and livestock farmers in attendance, providing livestock treatment and quarantine support.

The Animal Medical Support Group is comprised of four teams comprised of professionals from the Military Livestock Policy Department (4 people), Airborne Doctors (4 people), and Gapyeong Livestock Cooperative (4 people). Accordingly, going forward, we will tour at least five vulnerable livestock farms in each group four times a year, once a quarter, and provide treatment such as surgical treatment and injection of livestock, disease consultation, guidance on feeding management, and support of quarantine medicine free of charge. .

On this day, after the inauguration ceremony, the animal medical support group visited 15 farms and conducted clinical observations on 467 animals, performed blood tests for brucellosis (38 animals), anthelmintic injections (150 animals), ringworm treatment (3 animals), and administered 20 kg of anthelmintics. and 40kg of immune boosters were provided.

The county also decided to conduct an interim evaluation of the ‘Korean beef internal fertilized egg production and transplantation project’ on this day and further accelerate the implementation of the project.

This project produces high-performance Korean beef by artificially inseminated with semen with proven excellent genetic ability and then implanting fertilized eggs produced in the uterus of empty cows into the uterus of poached cows (surrogate mothers). Last year, Gapyeong-gun attracted attention when it was implemented for the first time in Gyeonggi-do.

Last year, 50 of the 100 Korean cows implanted with fertilized eggs became pregnant, showing a 50% conception rate, and of these, 37 high-performing calves were born to date.

This year, the second year of the project, we plan to harvest eggs from 16 high-quality cows and transplant them into 80 poached cows, and we plan to continue investing by increasing the volume of the project in the future.

Through this project, the county expects to shorten the improvement period for Korean beef farms and inherit superior traits to contribute to Gapyeong’s high-capacity Korean beef production, which is differentiated from existing Korean beef in terms of growth and meat quality.

County Governor Seo Tae-won said, “I ask the government and the private sector to work together to make Gapyeong Korean beef a national premium Korean beef through Korean beef improvement.” He added, “In particular, the Animal Medical Support Group, which was inaugurated today, is also contributing to the income of underprivileged livestock farmers by providing free medical treatment, etc. “Please play a significant role in increasing the number of people.”
