Is it warm enough today? Is that too fancy now? Can you really go to the office like this?
Every day women spend precious time combining clothes and occasions. There are few pieces of clothing that really work for concerts, parents’ evenings and even on the beach.
But one item of clothing surpasses even the universal applicability of jeans: the maxi dress.
With the help of style expert Sonja Grau, BILD explains why a floor-length dress with sleeves not only fits into every everyday situation, but also flatters every woman.

The maxi dress flatters every wearer. It’s important that it’s not too tight or so big that you feel like you’re wearing a nightgown.
Most maxi dresses emphasize the waist, so the dress should fit you well at this point. For some, the high-necked design may seem staid, but this can be quickly remedied with a chic button placket. And: Feel free to show off some leg or cleavage!
► “I recommend breaking up the look with accessories,” says Sonja Gray, style consultant and personal shopper. “Through jewelry, belts, short jackets, scarves and so on – to put it simply: stylish eye-catchers.”
For every weather

There is actually no unsuitable weather for a maxi dress. In summer it protects from the sun without being heavy on the skin. It can even be worn as a cover-up with a swimsuit on the beach.
In cooler months you can combine it with jackets or knitwear to create the “onion look”, says Sonja Grau: “A thick knitted cardigan or a cape can be brilliantly styled for autumn or winter with the maxi dress from the summer. A short turtleneck sweater or a biker jacket lined with lambskin, a short faux fur jacket and a warmer denim jacket also make a great combination style.”
A scarf – plain, patterned, long or short – gives the summer maxi dress a great fashionable appearance for the colder season.

For some, the idea of wearing an ankle-length dress in everyday life can seem a bit “overdressed”. How are you supposed to get to the supermarket or be flexible at work? Maxi dresses look modern when you combine them with sneakers, roll up the sleeves or even fold them down and tie them around the waist with the sleeves. Like a jumpsuit, they adapt well to everyday life – only going to the toilet is less complicated.
Gray: “I would choose a maxi dress in a plain color and for the first step the dress in a darker color (like black, dark gray or chocolate brown). Accessories like a longer link necklace or a short statement necklace are usually very flattering on a plain-colored maxi dress and make you feel at home with it. A waist belt is also great in combination and in terms of the feel-good factor.”
