Gasoline and diesel dominate leasing, which now accounts for 23.5% of registrations

The leasing of Passenger Cars, Industrial Vehicles, Agricultural Vehicles and SUVs registered 200,581 operations in the first eight months of 2023, 21.7% more than in the same period of the previous year, according to figures provided by the Spanish Leasing and Renting Association ( AELR).

These figures show that close to two out of every 10 vehicles (that is, 23.5%) that were registered in Spain until August of this year were through ‘renting’, a modality for which a certain amount of money is paid and which after a few years allows you to change the vehicle.

By type of propulsion, in the first eight months of 2023, 80,270 diesel vehicles were registered, which represented 40% of the total acquired in ‘renting’. Gasoline vehicles were 111,936, 55.8% of the total. The heading of electric cars, liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas jointly represented 4.1% of the total in ‘renting’, up to 8,339 vehicles. Within this group, the electric ones were the most sold (6,835) and represented 3.4% of the total.

“Automotive leasing maintains its positive inertia globally this year, supported by the use of this tool by companies and individuals,” said the president of AELRJose Coronel of Palma and Martinez-Agullo.

As for passenger cars, leasing increased by 18.7% up to August, reaching 161,010 contracts. It also grows in the case of vans by 48.3%, which means that up to August 29,799 operations have been carried out.

For its part, in the SUV sector there was a slight year-on-year increase of 2.2%, since between January and August there were 6,581 rental registrations.

Regarding trucks, these totaled 1,941 contracts, 49.6% more. On the other hand, agricultural leasing mobilized 1,218 operations, which represents a year-on-year drop of 8.8%.

by brands, Volkswagen was the one that registered the most vehicles through leasing in August (1,281), 15.1% less than in the same month of 2022.
