Polling stations have opened their doors in Poland this Sunday, where almost 30 million citizens will decide whether to revalidate the Government headed by the ultraconservative Law and Justice (PiS) for a third term, in addition to positioning itself through a referendum on issues of social and immigration policy.

The polls will remain open from seven in the morning until nine at night (same time in Spain) to elect a total of 460 parliamentarians of the Sejm (Lower House) and 100 senators.

Throughout the day, the National Electoral Commission will hold four press conferences to provide updated information on participation and possible incidents. Once the schools are closed, the public channel TVP and the private channels TVN and Polsat will make public the exit polls based on data collected by the Ipsos agency, relating to the distribution of seats and the answers to each of the four questions of the referendum.

The polls published in the last few days They consider PiS the winner by a narrow margin on the liberal opposition of the Civic Platform (PO), led by the former president of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

However, PiS may not have an absolute majority, which has sparked speculation about a possible pact with the far-right Confederacin party to be able to govern. This poses some difficulties due, among other issues, to the party’s refusal to continue supporting Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.

The need to count referendum responses and the fact that a record 600,000 overseas residents are expected to submit their votes have led the Electoral Commission to warn that counting may not end until next Tuesday.
