Undefeated Bulldogs Aim to Close Non-Conference Play with Victory Over Charleston Southern

Georgia women’s basketball (13-0) seeks to cap off a perfect non-conference run when it hosts Charleston Southern (2-10) on Monday at 12 p.m. ET at Stegeman Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs are off to their best start in five years, boasting a dominant 13-0 record. A win against the Buccaneers would mark only the third time in program history Georgia has completed non-conference play undefeated. Georgia has won all three previous matchups against Charleston Southern, including both contests played in Athens.
Dominance on Both Ends of the Court
Georgia’s success stems from a potent combination of offensive firepower and stifling defense. The team averages 80.1 points per game, exceeding the 80-point mark in seven of its 13 contests – the most through 13 games since the 2005-06 season. Leading the charge is sophomore guard Dani Carnegie, currently ranked 11th in the SEC in scoring with 17.2 points per game. Carnegie is also the SEC leader in 3-point field goal percentage (45.5%) and 3-pointers made (40).
However, the Lady Bulldogs are far from a one-player team. Four players currently score in double figures, showcasing a balanced attack. Junior guard Rylie Theuerkauf has emerged as a consistent scoring threat, shooting 44% from behind the arc. Freshman Zhen Craft provides a spark off the bench, leading the team in rebounding among non-starters, while sophomore Trinity Turner orchestrates the offense, averaging 4.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Defensively, Coach ABE’s squad ranks third in the SEC and sixth nationally, limiting opponents to a mere 51.6 points per game. Georgia has held six of its 13 opponents under 50 points, including four consecutive opponents to start the season – a program first.
A Look at the Opponent
Charleston Southern enters Monday’s contest with a 2-10 record. Head Coach Clarisse White is in her fifth season with the Buccaneers, holding a career record of 34-97. While Charleston Southern has struggled this season, the Lady Bulldogs are focused on maintaining their high level of play.
According to team comparisons, Georgia holds a significant advantage in nearly every statistical category, including points per game (80.1 vs. 64.4), field goal percentage (47.5% vs. 39.8%), and rebounding margin (+7.3 vs. -0.2).
Building a Legacy
Georgia’s impressive start is also fueled by a strong recruiting class and a commitment to program tradition. The Lady Bulldogs’ 2025 transfer portal class was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally, while the freshman class earned a No. 18 ranking from ESPN. Transfers like Carnegie, Enjulina Gonzalez, and Rylie Theuerkauf have seamlessly integrated into the team, adding experience and talent.
The program’s rich history is also a source of motivation. Georgia ranks second in SEC history and 19th nationally with 1,097 all-time wins. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the 1995-96 teams that reached the Final Four and finished as national runners-up.
