Gérald Darmanin took stock of the New Year’s Eve night in France on Monday in Montargis (Loiret), announcing “380 arrests” at 7:00 a.m., down 10% compared to last year, and “745 vehicles burned” , also down 10%.

The Minister of the Interior welcomed the “calm night” of New Year’s Eve. “In Paris,” he said, “more than a million people were on the Champs-Elysées, without any major incident.” He noted that there had been “80% fewer fireworks mortar attacks” compared to last year and “40% fewer police officers and gendarmes injured”.

A few months before the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, New Year’s Eve on the Champs-Elysées was a test of the capital’s ability to welcome several hundred thousand spectators without incident.
