Germany’s national railway company (Deutsche Bahn) has officially implemented its new regulations regarding alcohol consumption at approximately 5,700 train stations nationwide. Previously restricted to about 40 major stations such as Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich, the restriction has been expanded by Deutsche Bahn to cover the entire national station network.

Behind the radical decision-making process lies a legal incident that occurred in the state of Baden-Württemberg last July. After prosecutors announced that the attacker was under the influence of alcohol, the executive board announced that alcohol consumption at stations would be brought to an end, according to Ensonhaber sources.

Federal Government Commissioner on Drugs and Addiction Hendrik Streeck also stated in an assessment via Avrupadan Bülten that he supports the practice, noting that alcohol is not the cause of every conflict, but it escalates conflicts and makes people harder to control.

Within the framework of the new operating and usage rules, inspections will be carried out by company security personnel and the Federal Police, according to Nefes. Security guards will first warn individuals who do not comply with the rules; those who violate the ban despite warnings may be removed from the station or face a ban on entry. Deutsche Bahn Spokesperson Anja Bröker emphasized that the inspections will be carried out in a measured and sensible manner rather than with a strict punitive approach.

The ban will apply to daily travel as well as days when major events such as Bundesliga matches are held. However, all alcohol consumption has not been completely banned:
- Restaurants, cafes, and registered food and beverage establishments operating within the station complexes are exempt; sales and consumption will continue in these areas.
- Passengers will continue to be able to carry unopened alcoholic beverages in their bags or luggage.
- Alcohol consumption will remain permitted in the restaurant sections and carriages of long-distance trains (provided that other passengers are not disturbed).
