Germany: Where German Retirees Can Live Comfortably

by time news

The desire of every retiree is to enjoy retirement after a long working life.

Seniors want to have a carefree vacation with everything they need close at hand. For some Germans, these desires are like a fairy tale, since their reality is completely different.

According to a new report by the Prognos Institute for Economic Research, which was compiled for the Association of German Insurers, retirees live best in the Elbe-Elster area in southern Brandenburg, according to germania.one. There, on a pension of 1,000 euros, you can live carefree and comfortable.

Everything looks different in Munich. Life for pensioners there is the most expensive in Germany. That said, the study does not claim that older people in southern Brandenburg receive the highest pension. It’s all about the purchasing power, which is noticeably different from other regions.

The purchasing power varies, depending on the region, up to 52%. Life for retirees is most expensive in the economically strong south of Germany: 40 of the 50 most expensive regions were scattered across Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. The cheapest places to live are in northern and eastern Germany.

Study author Heiko Burre: “Where you live has a big impact on the cost of living. But: more expensive areas do not have to be less attractive, as wages and pensions are usually higher there than in cheaper regions. ” For the study, Prognos compared the cost of living for retirees over 65 in 401 counties and independent cities.
