The platform of critics of Geroa -which seeks to collect benefits at will both in rent and in a single payment- held a heated assembly this Thursday at the Bastero de Andoain cultural center, where its leaders charged harshly against the Basque Government and the four main unions in Euskadi (ELA, LAB, Comisiones Obreras and UGT) for their lack of support and their “silence”.
In fact, the spokesman for those who self-styled aggrieved by Geroa, José Mari Lazkano, went so far as to insinuate in a personal capacity -although accompanied by warm applause and cheers from the 400 people present- a certain “corruption” in the Vitoria Executive due to its lack of answer.
Jaime de Carvajal, the lawyer for the Asufin association (which is in charge of legal issues for the platform) presented the day, with all those present dressed in yellow in protest. Lazkano explained that hours before he had spoken with the director of Financial Policy of the Basque Government, Arantxa Larrauri, who, he assured, “did not know how to give an answer” to his questions.
“Something strange is happening, they hide something when they want to make it by law that we charge in rent and not in capital, while in 99% of the EPSV in the Basque Country it is possible,” he said. “They assure us that their will is that it be so in the preferred social security entities (such as Geroa), but they do it with our money and not with theirs,” he pointed out, visibly angry, to add that “the owners of Geroa are us , but we find only the ‘command and command’».

In this way, the lawyer, who openly acknowledged before those affected present that up to now the group has not achieved a single judicial victory and that the sentences of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country have been “very harsh”, changes jurisdiction and Also tactical.
And it is that from claiming in the social courts that the Geroa partners were never informed of the changes in the statutes that referred to the way of collecting benefits, he now goes on to ask the judges to annul those changes for considering them « abusive” and, furthermore, for having imposed them on companies.
De Carvajal also slipped that he goes to the courts outside the Basque Country because he hopes to find some more protection there: “I need to believe in the system, but I have to look for jurisdictions that are more alien and independent of the problem itself.”
