The Times quoted the Defense Forces as saying that a Ukrainian fighter pilot was killed after shooting down 40 Russian planes.
It was after his death that the identity of Major Stepan Tarabalka, a fighter from Ghost of Kyiv, was revealed. Major Tarabalka is 29 years old. According to reports, the MiG-29 he was flying had a strong confrontation with the enemy on March 13. The plane was shot down by Russian forces during the fighting.
Tarabalka became a hero of Ukraine after six Russian planes shot down on the first day of the war. The Ukrainians described Tarabalka as a “guardian angel”. On February 26, he shot down 10 more Russian warplanes. The Ukrainian Defense Forces claimed that forty Russian warplanes had crashed into Tarabalke.
