New Delhi: Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior leader of the G23 group, today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi as part of a drive to appease the party’s reformists. The meeting was held at Sonia’s residence No. 10 in Janpath.

In the wake of the Assembly election defeat, the High Command has indicated that it will consider G23 proposals, including the need to work from top to bottom.

In a two-phone conversation with Ghulam Nabi, Sonia had asked him to hold talks with the leaders who had strengthened the criticism and to inform them of the details of their discussions. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Hooda, a representative of the G23 faction, met Rahul Gandhi on Thursday and submitted his proposals.

There are indications that Rahul has promised to consider proposals to strengthen the party. These issues were discussed again at the G23 meeting held at the residence of Ghulam Nabi. This was followed by a meeting between Ghulam Nabi and Sonia yesterday. Ghulam Nabi will also meet Rahul.

There is an optimistic belief

Ghulam Nabi Azad said the discussion with Sonia was optimistic. The working committee had asked for suggestions related to the electoral defeats in five states. So we met to share some of our suggestions. The party is determined to fight hard to defeat its opponents in the coming elections.
