Government Authorities announced this Thursday that the total amount for the preliminary draft of the General Budget of the Nation for next year, which amounts to Q124,602 million, this amount would exceed the amount approved by Congress for this year, which amounted to Q.115,443.7 million.

As detailed, an increase in the budget allocation for education, citizen security, health, food security, migration and economic development programs is proposed during 2024.
In this context, the Minister of Public Finance, Edwin Martínez Cameros, explained the proposal for the Budget Ceilings for 2024 from four main Ministries, which would be as follows:
- Education: Q23,050.6 million
- Health: Q12,277.1 million
- Governorate: Q7,779.2 million
- Communications: Q6,580.0 million
President Alejandro Giammattei said that within the social programs that increase their allocation with Q350 million is the Program for the Elderly, together with the support of school meals that registers Q400 million more for the following year, he indicated.
Among other increases in the allocation of their budget ceilings, Q1,400 million quetzales to the municipalities and Q500 million to the Departmental Development Councils stand out.
“Today we finished the 2024 Open Budget exercise in which we worked on the State management instrument, which will be sent to Congress. This is how we publicize the annual plans of the institutions in an efficient, effective and transparent manner”, assured the president.
It is worth mentioning that the Budget must be approved by the current authorities and the approved amount will be the one that the incoming Government must execute as of January 2024.
