NFL Investigates Giants Co-Owner Steve Tisch’s Connections to Jeffrey Epstein

The National Football League has launched a review into the relationship between New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch and the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of court documents that revealed Tisch’s name appeared over 400 times in correspondence related to Epstein.

The NFL acknowledged the reports and Tisch’s initial response, stating on Monday that it would “look into the matter to understand the facts.” The league’s investigation centers on emails exchanged in 2013, in which Epstein allegedly facilitated introductions between Tisch and numerous women.

Details Emerge from released Emails

The released emails paint a disturbing picture of Epstein acting as a procurer, offering to connect Tisch with women from various countries. In May 2013, Epstein proposed a meeting with a Russian woman, to which Tisch reportedly responded within a minute, asking, “Is she fun?” The following month, Tisch inquired about a woman from Tahiti, specifically questioning whether she was a “working girl.” Epstein’s reply was a curt, “Never.”

Further correspondence revealed Epstein providing updates on encounters Tisch had with women. In one instance, Epstein wrote, “[R]eport just in, you did very well,” adding that a woman Tisch met “wants to go to the play” but was “a little freaked by the age difference” and advised, “go slow… [I] will try to convince her not to return to Ukraine. having her crying worked.” Tisch’s response was a chilling,”Nice report … Funny comment on crying!!!”

Tisch Denies Wrongdoing,Cites Brief Association

In a statement released on Friday, the 76-year-old Tisch acknowledged a “brief association” with Epstein, characterizing their interactions as limited to discussions about “adult women, and in addition,we discussed movies, philanthropy and investments.” He vehemently denied any improper conduct, stating, “I did not take him up on any of his invitations and never went to his island. As we all know now, he was a terrible person and someone I deeply regret associating with.”

NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy and Potential Penalties

Despite the lack of criminal charges against Tisch, the NFL retains the authority to impose disciplinary measures under its extensive personal conduct policy. The policy stipulates that all individuals associated with the league must avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in” the NFL, emphasizing a standard exceeding legal requirements.

The league demonstrated its willingness to enforce this policy in 2023, fining former Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder $60 million following an investigation into workplace misconduct and financial improprieties.

goodell Promises Thorough Review

During his Super Bowl week press conference on Monday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell affirmed the league’s commitment to a thorough investigation. “We are going to look at all the facts,” Goodell stated. “We are going to look at the context of those and try to understand that,we will look at how that falls under the policy. But let’s get the facts first.”

Tisch, an Academy award-winning producer for Forrest Gump and chairman and executive vice president of the Giants, has been involved with the team since his father, preston Tisch, acquired a 50% stake in 1991. The documents at the center of this controversy were released due to the Epstein Files Openness Act, enacted after significant public and political pressure to disclose details related to Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Epstein’s death by suicide in a New York jail cell in August 2019, following his indictment on federal sex trafficking charges, has fueled ongoing scrutiny and demands for accountability. The NFL’s investigation will undoubtedly add another layer to the complex legacy of Epstein and the individuals connected to him.
