Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach posed on the red carpet with his new girlfriend Elisabeth Niejahr on the opening night of this year’s Berlinale. The SPD politician and the managing director of the “Strengthening Democracy” department of the Hertie Foundation held hands as they were photographed by the photographers. The 58-year-old is now publishing a picture of the couple’s appearance on Platform X – and a short explanation.
The journalist Elisabeth Niejahr writes about a snapshot from Thursday evening that shows her in a red dress and him in a dark gray suit over an orange sweater and a white shirt: “We were at the cinema. Why at the Berlinale? We would have been photographed together soon anyway – then it’s better that way. Good film, by the way!” She is talking about the drama “Small Things Like These,” which was shown at the opening of the Berlinale.
“I’ve never seen such brilliant pictures”
Many users left a comment on Niejahr’s post and wished the couple all the best. “Congratulations,” someone writes, another person comments: “How nice!” And this user explains: “I find it totally fascinating how happy the man looks next to you. I don’t know any other pictures that are so radiant. Wish you a lot of happy time together.” Many also simply send heart emojis.
Karl Lauterbach made it public at the end of January that he had a new partner. “I’m glad that Elisabeth Niejahr is in my life,” he said to “Bild”.
