Influencers invented by a neural network are increasing their earnings. In recent months, several characters created by artificial intelligence have gained rapid popularity on social networks. Hundreds of thousands of people subscribe to them, and large brands pay thousands of dollars for each advertising post on their pages. In addition, avatars earn money from private content. The topic will be continued by Yana Lubnina.

You can find a video on YouTube: a developer creates an account with photos of a girl generated by a neural network. When the number of subscribers reaches 10 thousand, small brands begin offering advertising to her. At 60 thousand, giants like FashionNova are already interested in cooperation.

The fashion market was generally one of the first to appreciate the advantages of digital ambassadors: they are cheaper than stars, more productive and do not cause public scandals. One of the richest virtual influencers is Lil Miquela. From collaborations with Balenciaga, Prada and Fenty Beauty, the creators of the drawn girl earn $10 million annually, and take $30 thousand for each post.

You can generate similar characters on services like ChatGPT for literally a few dollars. But a carefully thought-out image will cost more, explained artificial intelligence specialist Igor Shcherbakov: “MVP will cost several thousand dollars. And from a lifecycle point of view, content moderators will almost certainly be required to review the generated content and select the most appropriate one.

If you create such a product based on existing solutions, for example, ChatGPT, then it is cheaper. If you want to create something from scratch, it will be many times more expensive. And from a profit point of view, the same effect occurs that is present in all IT solutions: if you develop a product and successfully invest in marketing, it will pay off fairly quickly.”

Competition in this market is intensifying: the media write about new stars generated by the neural network almost every month. In November, pink-haired Aitana Lopez became popular. One of the Spanish modeling agencies created her, supposedly tired of real models with complex personalities. In winter, brunette Emily Pellegrini blew up social networks. Both earn from $3 thousand to $10 thousand per month from intimate photos. This method of earning money gained popularity after the advent of the OnlyFans service with a paid subscription to exclusive content.

Real users of this site are also mastering artificial intelligence. Thus, streamer Caitlin Siragusa created a chat bot that repeats conversations with herself and sends fans her photos and videos created by a neural network. And all this can change the market for explicit content, noted Roman Dushkin, CEO of the developer of intelligent systems “A-Z Expert”:

“This can lead to the fact that each person will have his own set of such models that completely satisfy his tastes from all points of view. They will recognize emotions in a person and respond to them in the right way.

Probably, in a five-year perspective, we will get the first solutions, and the startups that are the first to do this will earn trillions.”

The possibilities for monetizing images generated by artificial intelligence do not end there. Film producers have long been replacing dead actors with deepfakes. The artists themselves sell the rights to use their image in advertising, and characters invented from scratch become bartenders, store consultants and TV presenters.

All of them, however, cannot boast of multimillion-dollar earnings, unlike the avatars of girls in swimsuits. Artificial intelligence specialist Igor Shcherbakov believes that, for example, the character of an elderly comedian could gain popularity among the audience. But for now, according to the expert, the capabilities of the technology itself are limited:

“Now there are quite promising startups that create AI girlfriends and boyfriends from the point of view of interpersonal relationships. It is popular in the global market, especially in Asia. There are some consultations where such an assistant can discuss with you the legal issue regarding the contract.

In the film industry, generated characters may appear that will fully correspond, for example, to the description from a book. There may be such virtual actors. Now the entire industry is built on visual content. If it is not created by human hands, but generated, this will reduce production costs and speed it up.”

In addition to big checks, digital influencers give their creators another unobvious advantage: newly-made millionaires can remain in the shadows and avoid publicity. Who developed the same Lil Miquela was unknown for the first two years. Later it turned out that her account was run by an entire company that specialized in robotics.
