Details of the Operation
A total of 85 gendarmerie soldiers were mobilized for the operation, which targeted a suspected large-scale drug trafficking network. During the operation, police seized €146,000 in cash, as well as 4 kilograms of cocaine, 3 kilograms of cannabis resin, and 50 grams of ecstasy, the prosecutor’s office stated.
Three men and one woman were taken into custody as part of the investigation, which is “actively pursues” as of Monday evening, according to Loïs Raschel, the Libourne public prosecutor. The investigation has been entrusted to the Libourne research brigade.
Why It Matters
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by French law enforcement to combat drug trafficking at the regional level. The significant quantities of drugs seized, along with the substantial amount of cash recovered, suggest a well-established and potentially lucrative criminal enterprise. The simultaneous dismantling of another drug trafficking operation in Landes indicates a broader crackdown on illicit drug activity in the region. Such operations are crucial for disrupting the supply of illegal drugs and addressing the associated societal harms.
“A large-scale legal operation took place this morning in Sainte-Foy-la-Grande and in the Pays Foyen, aiming to dismantle a major drug trafficking network,” said Loïs Raschel, public prosecutor of Libourne.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the identities of those arrested or the specific nature of the network they allegedly operated within.
