Gloriavale Leader Faces Court Over Sexual Offense Allegations
Howard Temple, the Overseeing Shepherd of Gloriavale, stands accused of 24 charges. These include committing an indecent act on a young person and indecent assault.
The allegations stem from a period spanning 1998 to 2022. Nine female complainants are involved, who were between nine and 20 years old at the time of the purported offenses.
Temple has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was granted bail after his initial court appearance in 2023. He has chosen a judge-alone trial, foregoing a jury.
Members of the West Coast commune are expected to testify in Temple’s defense, as the alleged victims present their claims.
