Minister of Economic and Social Development Gnel Sanosyan today received the regional head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus, Director Katarina Bjorlin Hansen and the head of the Yerevan office of the EBRD Dmitri Gvindadze.
The minister highly appreciated the ministry’s cooperation with the EBRD, as a result of which the jointly implemented programs brought serious changes. The minister presented the already implemented and upcoming projects, in which the EBRD is also included, and it is expected that the cooperation will be equally effective.
The minister thanked for the large-scale projects implemented especially in Gyumri, singled out the construction of the Kotayk-Gegharkunik landfill, which is currently being successfully implemented, and emphasized that according to the government’s plan, it is planned to have 4-5 such landfills in the republic, drawing the attention of EBRD representatives to the upcoming cooperation in that direction. .
During the meeting, the construction process of the Sisian-Kajaran road section was also discussed, the directions of road construction, reservoir construction, tourism development, renewable energy use were discussed. The minister noted that 15 reservoirs are planned to be built in the next 5 years, within the framework of the support provided by the EU, that number has become 17, and 4 more reservoirs need to be repaired.
EBRD regional director Katarina Bjorlin Hansen emphasized that they are interested in the projects of road construction, construction of new landfills, water supply and sewerage modernization of Sevan and neighboring communities, treatment plants, tourism development in Aragats.
The parties agreed to meet again in November, when the action plan of the government will be ready, after which the directions of cooperation will be clearer.
