‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire’, review. A film that will leave its mark on the Monsterverse

by time news

The appearance of the star titans of the Monsterverse returned to theaters this past March 27. ‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire’ offers a strong dose of violence, without any further pretensions. The striking battles between the gigantic monsters are the ones that take up the entire role in Adam Wingward’s film, with scenes that leave you speechless. Whether you are a fan of the saga or have not seen any of the previous ones, this return of Godzilla and King Kong to the big screen amuses and impacts with its brutal moments between the titans, which the director correctly understands as the raison d’être of a tape like this.

With hardly any dialogue, but with scenes of a lot of action, it is clear that the criticism of the previous installment ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ has been heard. The creators have changed what was necessary. The audience of this saga pays their admission to witness these enormous creatures fighting savagely and destroying everything within their reach, and that’s what they’re going to get here. Anything else, that is, any interpretation of humans, is unnecessarily lengthening the plot.

Who is the cast of ‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire’?

In ‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire’ the human cast is reduced to a minimum. Almost all of them repeat after passing through the previous installment, but they have kept the most interesting ones. One of those returning is Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry, who plays the most comical and sympathetic moments, although he can be a little cheesy at times. His companion in battle is Dan Stevens, in the same role played by Alexander Skarsgård, who plays a cocky and lazy man who ends up getting along well with him.

For the first time in the saga and in the entire Monsterverse, the protagonist is a woman. Rebecca Hall, who returns as Kong’s director of operations in the Hollow Earth and mainly as the mother of a girl (Kaylee Hottle who also returns at only twelve years old) who is the last survivor of the Skull Island tribe and the only one capable of communicate with Kong.

As a narrative license, the new installment tries to put a magnifying glass on the life, memories and feelings of King Kong, although Godzilla also gains importance when he appears on the scene, everything in just the right measure so as not to put himself in the middle of the action Cairo , Rome or Cadiz are some of the places where the titans leave signs of their undoubted power, in what is a film to drink popcorn without conscience, recline in the seat and enjoy some visual fireworks that do not tire during the 115 minutes that this Warner Bros. proposal lasts.
