Gokseong-gun is embracing the holiday spirit with a four-day Christmas event at the Seomjingang Train Village, running from December 25th to 28th. The event, centered around an interactive “merry-go-bingo” program, aims to boost winter tourism and invigorate local businesses.
A Family-Focused Winter Wonderland
The Seomjingang Train Village is transforming into a winter wonderland, offering a range of activities designed for families. The core of the experience is a 4×4 bingo-style program where visitors complete missions throughout the village. Participants receive a bingo board upon entry and can mark off completed tasks by collecting stamps, taking photos, and sharing them on social media.
Completing even a single line on the bingo card earns visitors a Christmas-themed “Glittering Kit” filled with prizes. Those who complete the entire board will receive an additional gift of locally sourced agricultural products. Prizes also include rail bike ride tickets, local desserts, and Gokseong-branded merchandise.
Entertainment and Photo Opportunities Abound
Beyond the bingo challenge, the event features daily children’s magic performances at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM in the Ecology Learning Center. These shows, presented by professional magicians, promise to entertain and delight young attendees.
Visitors can also explore four dedicated photo zones throughout the train village – including areas near the district history exhibit, the Ecology Learning Center, and the Chichippu Playground – designed to capture the magic of the season. These “proof photo spots” are intended to encourage social media sharing and create lasting memories.
Boosting Local Economy Through Experiential Tourism
According to a senior official, the event is part of a broader strategy to position Gokseong as a year-round destination. “We have prepared experiential content that various generations can participate in,” the official stated, emphasizing the goal of providing engaging activities even during the winter off-season.
The “merry-go-bingo” event is specifically designed to extend visitor stays and encourage exploration of local businesses. Organizers anticipate that the photo authentication and social media sharing components will generate organic publicity and drive economic activity within the region. The event is capped at 250 participants per day, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to tourism development, leveraging interactive experiences and community engagement to create a vibrant winter destination.
